It's that time of the year again, the kids are out of school for the summer and before you know it you need to start preparing for the new year. Since our vision is so crucial for our success at school, a yearly eye exam is on the list of things to do. Here are a few helpful tips to remember.

  1. The American Optometric Association recommends eye exams for children 6 months of age, 3 years, before first grade and every 2 years if the child does not have vision issues, yearly if the child wears glasses or contact lenses.
  2. The right prescription is important for seeing the board and doing close work. In face 80% of learning that occurs in the classroom goes through the visual system.
  3. Vision is more than just a prescription, there are around 10 visual tasks used for reading.
  4. If you child plays sports, protect their eyes from eye injuries by getting special lenses that are shatter proof.
  5. If your child is on a phone, tablet or computer for more than an hour per day talk to our optometrists about computer glasses and blue light protection.
